CDEV Statement re. Telesat Announcement
Space is increasingly becoming one of the most strategic areas of the global economy. It is more important than ever that we have sovereign capabilities for communication and defence.
This week, the Government of Canada announced an agreement in principle to use Telesat Lightspeed to provide military satellite communications in the Arctic. The Telesat Lightspeed project is a proudly sovereign constellation of LEO satellites, a project that has been enabled by a significant long-term loan that CDEV oversees. By enabling this project, Canada has been able to forge ahead building critical dual-use commercial space capabilities that are increasing Canada’s technological advantages, protecting our economic sovereignty, and keeping Canadians safe.
“CDEV combines commercial sophistication, public sector accountability, and operational agility that set Canada up to rapidly deliver on projects of national importance, says Elizabeth Wademan, CDEV’s President and CEO. By supporting Telesat Lightspeed in 2024, Canada knows it has a trusted homegrown security and satellite partner today and over the long-term horizon.”
